How long will it take to complete the Master Health Coaching Certification?

This program lasts for 20 weeks. Each week, you’ll attend a live, 2-hour workshop led by our expert mentors, alongside your peers.

You’ll also want to dedicate roughly 6-8 hours per week participating in the live online learning sessions, practicing your new skills through coursework and case studies, and connecting with fellow health and fitness professionals.
If you can make the commitment, it’s enough time to completely transform your coaching skills and business.

The Fall 2025 cohort orientation sessions will be held at three different times (you’ll choose the one that works for you): October 15th at 8:30am ET or 5:00pm ET; or October 16th at 1:00pm ET. The program will conclude on April 11th, 2026.

When are the live coaching workshops? How do they work?

Each week, you will be required to attend a live, 2-hour online workshop via Zoom. This is where you’ll join your fellow students to learn, grow, and practice together during a workshop led by one of PN’s in-house expert coaches.

We understand that your schedule may vary, so we will offer three different days/times each week for these live workshops. You’ll choose the day and time each week that works best for you. You can attend a different time each week if you’d like.

These workshops start the week of October 20th.

The schedule is as follows:
Wednesdays @ 8:30am ET
Wednesdays @ 5:00pm ET
Thursdays @ 1:00pm ET

After the workshops end, there will be a two-week final exam period.

How will this program help me become a Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach?

The PN Master Health Coaching Certification is an Approved Health and Wellness Coach Training & Education Program by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).

Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the HWC Certifying Examination to become National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).

But not everyone wants to become a Board Certified coach.

That’s why we’re offering three different pathways for students who join the PN Level 2 Master Health Certification:

Path #1: The “PN Certified Level 2 Master Coach” pathway—for health and fitness professionals who are not interested in becoming a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. In this pathway, students will only need to complete PN’s 20-week core program. You’ll earn the PN Certified Master Coach designation, and you’ll gain the knowledge, strategies, and hands-on experience you need to take your coaching skills to a world-class level. That means better results for your clients—and your business. Guaranteed.

Path #2: The “PN Certified Master Health Coach” pathway—this includes everything in Path #1, plus the Self-Paced Health Conditions & Preventive Care units and quizzes, 3 x 90-minute mentoring sessions, and a practical skills oral exam. This gives you additional mentoring and knowledge beyond the first pathway (all of which is included in the cost of your L2 program.)

Path #3: The “National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC)”—for those who wish to earn the most esteemed credential in the industry. This includes everything in Path #1 and #2. Additionally, you’ll be required to conduct 50 health and wellness coaching sessions with clients. With all those requirements completed, you’ll earn the PN Certified Master Health Coach designation, and you can apply for the HWC Certifying Examination to become a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. (This all comes at no extra cost to you, and could take an additional 3-4 months, depending on how you pace yourself. Our students have an above average pass rate of 92%.)

What are the benefits of becoming a Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach?

Earning the esteemed NBC-HWC credential and completing a rigorous training program bolsters your reputation as a qualified health and fitness professional—allowing you to stand out from the pack and coach with more confidence than ever before.

But that’s not all.

Coaches who become a National Board Certified Health and well-being Coach can also experience the following benefits:

Complimentary listing in the National Directory of Board Certified Health & well-being Coaches. The NBHWC consistently promotes this directory on social media platforms to consumers to draw awareness about this respected credential. Coaches can be searched by state, city or zip code. Job opportunities: Many organizations prefer to hire coaches who hold the NBC-HWC credential, and when job opportunities become available, the NBHWC places this information on their private social media page so NBC-HWCs are informed and in the know.

To learn more about these benefits, and determine whether they’ll apply to your situation, please see the NBHWC website for more details.

Are there any prerequisites required to take the Master Health Coaching Certification?

We have found that students who do the best in our Master Health Coaching Certification have already passed the PN Level 1 Certification and/or have a background in a health-related field (fitness trainer, nutritionist, health coach, nurse, or another kind of health care provider). So while this isn’t “required”, we do encourage it.

Do I need to have clients to take the Master Health Coaching Certification?

Since this is a hands-on, practice-based program, we will often ask you to test what you’re learning on real people. So having a few clients, whether formal or informal (e.g. friends, family) is important for you to get the most out of your time here.

After I earn my PN Certified Master Health Coach credentials, will I ever have to recertify?

Once you’ve finished the Master Health Coaching Certification you’re required to renew your credential every two years, from your date of course completion. This will keep you on the cutting edge of this field, demonstrate your commitment to continued learning, and help you continue to deliver the best possible results for your clients.

As long as you complete the recertification process before your Master Health Coach Certification expires, you’ll maintain your status as “PN certified”.

How does this work together with PN’s L1 Certification?

They’re two completely different and complementary certifications. You do NOT need PN L1 in order to take the L2 Master Health Coaching Certification.

PN Level 1 is a self-guided program about nutrition. It will give you a pro-level understanding of nutrition science and how to apply that science to help your clients through behavior-change coaching.

PN Level 2 is a guided mentorship that focuses on the art and science of comprehensive health coaching itself—not specific nutrition or fitness strategies. This will give you mastery in your coaching skills.

We’ll peel back the curtain and give you behind-the-scenes access to our best research, strategies, tools, and technologies. And you’ll go through the same mentor-led curriculum we use to train PN’s in-house coaches.

What does this mean for your coaching practice?

Recent ProCoach data with over 100,000 coaching clients shows that the average PN Level 2 coach:

Gets and retains 10 times as many clients vs. the average Level 1 coach, Gets better results with those clients vs. the average Level 1 coach, and Reports having more fun and enjoyment in their coaching practice.

How difficult are the quizzes and final exam?

If you’re following along with the lessons and weekly lectures, you’ll do fine. The quizzes aren’t designed to “trip you up”. They’re not rigorous assessments and you don’t have to study for them. Rather, the quizzes are just another chance to grow. They’re in place to help you see the material from a different perspective, deepen your learning, and prepare for the final exam.

At the end of the course, students will complete a 100 question multiple choice final exam. And again—the goal of this exam is to synthesize what you’ve learned. So as long as you’ve put effort into learning the material throughout the program, this shouldn’t be anything to stress about.

What grade do I need to pass?

Successful completion of this course means the student must:

Complete at least 75% of the weekly reflection questions. Complete at least 75% of the quizzes. Complete 3 written case study assignments with a score of 75% or better. Attend and participate in 20 live online weekly workshops (one per week). Complete a 100-question, multiple-choice final exam with a score of 75% or better.

Are there any course materials shipped with the Level 2 Master Health Coaching Certification?

No. Your course content is delivered 100% online. So you can participate from anywhere in the world as long as you can access the internet.

Can I see an example case study?

Fair warning: We’ll deliberately throw you some tough stuff during these simulations. We’ll give you the “trial by fire” by asking you to work through difficult and puzzling coaching scenarios.

You’ll make your mistakes now—with us guiding, mentoring, and helping you out, as well as offering you feedback at key moments. That way you’ll feel fully confident in any coaching scenario after you finish the program.
